APFC Panel (Automatic Power Factor Correction Panel)

Function of APFC Panel

An APFC Panel, also known as an Automatic Power Factor Correction Panel, is used to improve and maintain the power factor of an electrical system automatically. These panels help industries and commercial facilities reduce electricity losses, improve energy efficiency, and avoid penalties imposed by electricity boards for low power factor.

At Plus3 Engineering Private Limited, our APFC panels are designed with intelligent control systems that continuously monitor the power factor and automatically switch capacitor banks ON or OFF to maintain the desired power factor level.

The system operates using a microprocessor-based programmable controller that detects reactive power generated by inductive loads such as motors, transformers, and pumps, and compensates it by injecting the required reactive power into the system.

How Does an APFC Panel Work in Industries?

In industrial environments, many electrical loads such as induction motors and transformers create lagging reactive power, which lowers the overall power factor.

APFC panels work by:

Continuously monitoring the electrical load
Detecting power factor variations
Automatically switching capacitor banks
Compensating reactive power in real time
Maintaining the power factor close to unity (0.99)

This automatic correction improves overall system efficiency, power quality, and energy utilization.

Our APFC panels are available in customized capacities ranging from 30 kVAr to 1000 kVAr and above, depending on customer requirements.

Why is APFC Important in Industrial & Commercial LT Panels?

Industries and commercial facilities generally operate with large electrical loads, which can lead to:

High electricity bills
Power losses
Poor power quality
Utility penalties due to low power factor

By installing APFC panels, businesses can automate power factor correction and significantly improve electrical system performance.

Benefits of APFC Panels:
Reduction in electricity penalties
Improved power efficiency
Lower power losses
Better voltage stability
Increased equipment life
Reduced manual intervention
Improved power quality

APFC panels help maintain efficient operation of LT Panels and electrical distribution systems.

Types of APFC Panels

There are mainly two types of power factor correction panels:

1. APFC Panel

Automatic Power Factor Correction panels automatically maintain the power factor by switching capacitor banks based on load conditions.

2. RTPFC Panel

Real-Time Power Factor Correction panels are advanced systems that provide faster and more accurate correction for rapidly changing loads.

These panels offer:

Intelligent capacitor switching
Fast response time
Real-time monitoring
Improved system reliability
Efficient energy management

Employing these systems can help industries achieve considerable energy savings and maintain excellent power quality.
